Alexandra Monaghan, instructed by Katy Olley of Gillen De Alwis Solicitors, represented a youth jointly charged with three others with intentionally causing harassment, alarm or distress to two young women on a London bus. It was alleged that Alexandra’s client had engaged in a campaign of abuse and behaviour towards the two complainants because of their sexuality.
The case involved CCTV evidence, extensive body worn footage and disclosure of numerous news articles from international and national news outlets, including several interviews given by the complainants.
The two-day trial was listed to commence on 28 November 2019. On the day of trial, Alexandra successfully negotiated with the Crown, resulting in the Crown offering no evidence in respect of her client.
The remaining three defendants entered guilty pleas.
