Julia Flanagan, instructed by Steve Law and Krystal O’Donnell of EBR Attridge, represented James Whitlock at Blackfriars Crown Court at his sentence for the offence of Prison Breaking. Whitlock and his co-defendant, Matthew Baker, had staged a daring escape from Pentonville prison on the seventh of July 2016, cutting through the window bars and using knotted sheets to abseil down the side of a building. The court was told that Pentonville prison was suffering unprecedented levels of violence from prisoners at the time and that Mr Whitlock had witnessed a murder take place on his wing, only weeks before his departure from the prison. HHJ Sullivan sentenced Mr Whitlock to 2 years’ imprisonment and Mr Baker to 30 months’ imprisonment.
