Darren Snow has joined the British Transport Police’s independent review panel monitoring their stop and search activities across the UK. This independent panel comprises of community leaders, young people, and experienced activists working closely with BTP senior management. All members are volunteers.
BTP polices the UK’s transport network. In London that means policing the entire public transport network across London – putting BTP on the front line in the fight against knife crime, “County Lines”, public order incidents and local drug dealing. Stop & Search is seen as an integral tool in front line policing but has always been controversial.
The panel works closely with BTP drawing upon the panel members wide experiences to ensure a fair, proportionate and properly focused Stop & Search policy within BTP.
Darren’s appointment reflects his experience as a criminal barrister together with his work for Youth Offending Service sitting on community panels and his more recent work sitting chairing police misconduct tribunals.
