Charter Chambers prides itself on upholding traditional values whilst embracing the future of the independent Bar, enabling us to move with the times and adopt a forward-thinking approach.

Charter Chambers is a leading and highly regarded set based in central London but with professional links to the Caribbean including the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Cayman Islands.  We specialise in crime, fraud and regulatory law, however, members regularly conduct family, employment and general commercial cases.

We see our pupils as the future of chambers and have a long track record in recruiting from those who have had pupillage with us.

Type of Work

Members both prosecute and defend and pupils are actively encouraged to prosecute where possible as we firmly believe that this type of work assists in the development of core skills.

However, pupils will primarily defend during the course of their pupillage. We have strong links to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the SFO, CAA, HMRC and the FSA which underlines our growing reputation as a chambers with a strong regulatory team.

Members of chambers regularly appear in regulatory tribunal hearings such as fitness to practice hearings. Pupils and junior tenants frequently spend time on secondment to enhance their skills and practice profile.

What we look for…

At Charter Chambers, we look for pupils who will thrive in the challenging and exciting environment of the Criminal Bar, who are friendly and approachable, yet will be fearless in their representation of their client.  Our tenants are keen to pass on their expertise and ensure we continue to invest in our chambers and in the independent Bar.

We take care in selecting our pupils as we aim to invest significant time and expertise in them with a view to them becoming tenants. Experience tells us that our pupils are kept busy by our thriving criminal practice and can expect to be at the coal face of the Criminal Bar by being in court on an almost daily basis once on their feet. If you join us we can guarantee a commitment to help you realise your potential by providing the support and professional supervision needed in a friendly and down to earth environment.
