Having had a broad civil commercial background I now specialise in criminal work. I am regularly instructed in substantial trials both as leading junior and as junior counsel. I have an ability to apply my experience to a number of niche areas including extradition, a range of regulatory work and other quasi crime including health and safety/ fire regulations. I have particular experience in criminal confiscation proceedings in the Crown and High Courts . I have been instructed by the Army Legal Service and have and acted for members of the Fire Brigade Union.

Interests: Sailing, skiing, travel.

Sheldon Culmer v Queen

Successfully represented the petitioner on an appeal to the Privy Council from the Court of Appeal Bahamas. Capital case dealing with the interpretation of Bahamian Criminal Code and Constitution.

Martin v Watson

Represented the petitioner in the House of Lords , successfully argued that a private individual who made a false report of a crime to the police was nonetheless had civil liability for the prosecution even though it was technically prosecuted by the police.

Davies v Queen

Petitioned the House of Lords on a point of law of public importance dealing with confiscation under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and the Trade Descriptions Act.

Islands

USA v Crook: Represented in extradition proceedings an executive charged in the USA with being party to a $4 billion corporate fraud, the case involved principles common to the case of the “Nat West 3”.Currently retained to advise in proceedings in San Diego.

R v Singh Leading counsel for the defence in a 7 week revenue fraud.

R v Keenan: Cambridge Crown Court, junior counsel in an attempted murder representing the defendant alleged to have shot a rival drug dealer.

R v Sweeny: Central Criminal Court, junior counsel in murder a case involving complex issues of causation.

R v McGrath: Blackfriars Crown Court, leading counsel represented the defendant charged with serious firearms offences/ drugs offences.

R v Robbins: Winchester Crown Court, leading counsel for defendant indicted with 11 others in a significant conspiracy to supply/ import drugs.

R v Hallet: Woolwich Crown Court, leading counsel for the defence, defendant charged with historic rapes.

R v Newton: Chelmsford Crown Court, leading counsel for the defence, a fraud culminating in a 12 day confiscation proceedings.

R v Sohi: Leicester Crown Court, leading counsel for defence, a case involving organised crime and significant money laundering.

R v Elfes: Luton Crown Court, leading counsel for defence, a contract killing which involved the firing of an AK47 in public for only the second time in the UK.

R v Samuel: Wood Green Crown Court, leading counsel for the defence in a money laundering , conspiracy to defraud alleging the theft of $5m .

R v Osenie: Kingston Crown Court, leading counsel for the defence in a conspiracy to defraud the clearing banks.
