Cases
R v Muggleton and others [Kingston Crown Court] Customs and Excise prosecution involving large scale VAT fraud at London City Bond Warehouse (LCB). The case was one of the first that brought to light the fact that Customs were using participating informants in the operation of a honey trap at LCB. Following lengthy defence legal arguments dealing with abuse of process and disclosure the case was halted against all the defendants. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel
R v Goad [Plymouth Crown Court] : Described in the national press as “Britain’s worst paedophile”. The defendant was a prominent businessman in the south west of England. It was alleged that over a period of 30 years the defendant used his position and influence to groom young boys who he subsequently abused. It was alleged that during his reign he abused in excess of 300 victims. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel
R v Elfes [Luton Crown Court] : Mutli-handed drug related murder. Sophisticated murder plot by professional gang as part of an ongoing feud between rivals. First case to involve the use of an AK-47 assault rifle in mainland Britiain. Trial judge Wilkie J. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel
R v Emesibe [Central Criminal Court]: Murder case investigated by “Operation Trident” Officers and prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel together with Junior Counsel, The case involved the murder of a local gangster by members of rival teenage gang, armed with a shotgun, samurai sword and knives.
R v Robbins and others [Winchester Crown Court]: Multi handed case involving long standing conspiracy to import in excess of 400 kg of cannabis into the UK. Investigated by National Crime Squad. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel
R v Faruq and others [Reading Crown Court]: sophisticated and long running conspiracy to facilitate the entry into the United Kingdom of foreign nationals. Further conspiracy to illegally obtain benefits in respect of those individuals, once within the jurisdiction. Mr Faruq was the central figure in the case. Crown sought confiscation in [excess £30m] Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and 2 Junior Counsel
R v Mayberry [Exeter Crown Court] : Prosecution as part of the investigation into Forde Park reform school. Historic allegations of sexual abuse by choirmaster. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel
R v Hamblin [Exeter Crown Court]: High profile case involving the murder of local landlord. Instructed on behalf of the defence. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel

R v Cooley [Central Criminal Court]: Multi handed conspiracy to murder. Prosecuted by Queen’s Counsel and Junior Counsel
R v Linda Stanton [Harrow Crown Court]: Prosecution involving serving police officer and brothel owner. Alleged that serving police officer was passing intelligence obtained from Police National Computer to his then partner to ensure the smooth running of her business. Prosecuted Leading Junior and Junior Counsel
R v Soper [Exeter Crown Court]: Conspiracy to burgle. Investigated under the name “Operation Macduff”. Case involved year long investigation by dedicated squad into commercial burglaries in the South West. Prosecuted Leading Junior and Junior Counsel
R v Ricketts [Harrow Crown Court]: Conspiracy to commit robbery. Multi handed case involving juvenile member of the “Wood Green Gang” who were responsible for a spate of street robberies. Prosecuted Leading Junior and Junior Counsel
R v Clifford Field [Guildford Crown Court]: Long running fraud committed against BUPA hospitals involving fraudulent supply of medical equipment. Instructed on behalf of principal defendant. Prosecuted Leading Junior and Junior Counsel

R v Grundy [Exeter Crown Court] : Multi handed conspiracy concerning long standing and sophisticated scheme to import and distribute cigarettes and the evasion of VAT.
R v Platt [Luton Crown Court]: Multi handed conspiracy involving the supply of crack cocaine and heroin in the Luton area. Prosecuted Leading Junior and Junior Counsel
R v Lucraft [Norwich Crown Court]: Kidnap and torture involving drug dealers fighting for control of drugs trade in Ipswich area
R v Thambithurai [Norwich Crown Court]: Violent disorder and S.18. Rival gangs fighting at annual religious festival in East Anglia
R v Hayman [Exeter Crown Court] : Prosecuted by DEFRA. Fraud to obtain farming subsidies from EU.
