Practice Profile
Mark Tomassi has been engaged in Criminal Law for over 25 years and has great experience of serious crime. He is regularly instructed in cases of homicide and manslaughter. His present caseload includes five separate cases involving suspicious death. Has recently completed the defence of one of the most serious cases of involvement in importation of firearms. Has appeared on national television in legal documentary /dramas. Is presently briefed in two high profile fraud cases involving a loss to exchequer of over 100 m gbp. V.A.T. carousel fraud has become a speciality, and as such was briefed in R-v-May, Bravard and others. Mark instructed in the UK’s second longest criminal trial R-v- Lombardi and others. He has a particular interest in road traffic law and is regularly instructed to both prosecute and defend in cases of death by dangerous driving, in which he has acquired a reputation for advanced technical knowledge. Has a reputation for hard hitting advocacy.
Cases
Has conducted several well-reported cases in the last few years. Two headline makers were R. v Errol Henry, Sheffield Crown Court (Rape by recidivist defendant); and R. v Glen Cornwall, Liverpool Crown Court (aggravated sexual assault). Recently conducted the successful appeal of Barry Gulzar (Spice Girls).
