Simpson successfully appeals conviction.

Charter barrister Jonathan Simpson successfully appealed the conviction of Flight Lieutenant Timothy Twaite.  The Appeal  arose from a decision by Judge  Advocate Peters to bring the proceedings to an end after conviction but before sentence had been determined.  This unusually complex case involved  both an appeal against conviction and a reference from the Judge Advocate General, the first instance of the latter since 1972.  The case raised issues as to whether a majority verdict on a serious criminal charge contravenes Article 6 Right to a Fair Trial.   The full judgement is attached.
