Charter Chambers was delighted to support the Free Representation Unit (FRU) at its 35th Anniversary benefit dinner on 15th May 2008. Charter is committed to the principle of access to justice and recognises the importance of the work FRU does, particularly given the difficulties in Legal Aid at this present time.
Remarking on the event, Steven Solley QC, Head of Chambers said ““It is extra-ordinary to think that 35 years ago, pupils in my old chambers, along with other young lawyers, had the ideas and energies to get FRU going. We stand with them now, committed to their ideas and committed to the future of FRU”
FRU raised about. £20,000 on the night and Charter Chambers was only too pleased to contribute to this very worthwhile cause, echoing the sentiments of the Attorney General, Baroness Scotland QC who spoke on the night.
