Biography

David Ewings joined Charter Chambers on the successful completion of his pupillage. Prior to this he spent 8 years working in the criminal department of a firm of solicitors as a caseworker and accredited police station representative. This background has given him significant experience of the wide spectrum of criminal law, including several high profile VHCC cases. David’s major areas of practice experience lie in:

Criminal law
Serious crime
Childcare
Adoption

Primarily a criminal defence practitioner, David receives regular instructions in both the Magistrates' and Crown Courts. He has developed a practice beyond his call, appearing in trials at the Old Bailey and representing the first defendant in a multi-handed knife point robbery. Solicitors and lay clients warm to his down to earth and practical approach combined with persuasive and thoughtful advocacy.

Having established a significant practice advising on appeals against conviction and sentence, David is happy to advise on the merits of any such proposed appeal.

David also receives instructions in family law matters, with a specific emphasis on childcare, both public and private. He has a particular interest in the law on adoption. He regularly appears in the High Court on such matters.

Recently he has been instructed as junior defence counsel in a libel action which is to be heard in the High Court in the coming year.
