Biography
Calvin has a particular interest in commercial crime and regulatory matters, having returned to the Bar after 25 years in professional and financial services. He has extensive boardroom advisory experience in banks, insurance companies and other large organisations worldwide. Calvin has specialised in corporate governance and regulation of executive compensation consulting - advising remuneration committees on pay matters, including cash and share incentives plus executive pensions.
The bulk of Calvin’s work has been for UK-based companies (many with multinational operations), but he has considerable experience of working with US, Middle Eastern, Japanese and Continental European companies. As well as working with companies that are already publicly-listed, he is experienced in advising ‘family offices’, pre-IPO companies and on IPO itself.
Calvin’s advice has been primarily focused on financial services organisations (banks, insurance companies and fund management); however, he has covered a broad variety of sectors, including technology, life sciences and retail. He has published widely on corporate governance/regulatory matters, spoken frequently on conference platforms and has commented in The Financial Times and The Times etc.
As well as practising at the Bar, Calvin’s career has included two years in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions - where he prosecuted a variety of serious criminal offences, such as homicide, drugs importation and commercial crime. He also worked for five years in the London tax practice of a Big 4 firm of chartered accountants and over 20 years for global firms of actuaries and consultants. He holds post-graduate degrees from London and Cambridge Universities.
Calvin is a member of the Incentives Advisory Board of The Practical Law Company.
